Drivers are advised to plan ahead and avoid unnecessary journeys, particularly in areas under amber warnings. Conditions will be hazardous, with surface water flooding, poor visibility, and the potential for bridge closures and blocked routes.
High-sided vehicles are especially vulnerable on exposed roads, and motorists should expect delays and diversions on major routes. The AA recommends checking local traffic updates and weather forecasts before setting off.
Shaun Jones, AA Expert Patrol, said: "Storm Bram will make driving extremely challenging in parts of the UK. If your journey isn’t essential, delay it until conditions improve. If you must travel, slow down, increase your stopping distance, and watch out for hazards like fallen branches and standing water.
“Even shallow floodwater can stall your engine or sweep your car away, so never take risks. Make sure your tyres, lights, and wipers are in good condition and your phone is fully charged before setting off. It’s also a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your car – including warm clothing and a torch.”
“Preparation and caution can make all the difference when the weather turns severe."
