Where to find your policy documents
Toggle arrow

Depending on how you said you'd like to hear from us, you'll receive your policy documents either by post or email.

If you chose to receive your documents by post, they should arrive within 5 to 7 days of purchase.

If you chose to be contacted by email, you'll receive a confirmation email shortly after purchase.

The email contains a link to create your account, where you'll find your insurance documents. They should be available 24 hours after purchase. After you set up the account, you can log in and view your documents anytime.

You might need a password to access your documents. Use the instructions in the email with your policy documents to enter your unique password. Alternatively, you’ll find these instructions on the policy documents page of your account. When you click the link to a document it will download to your device. On a phone, use the search tool to find your 'Files' app. On a computer, use the search bar to look for your 'Downloads'.

If neither post nor email has arrived yet, check your email junk folder, or contact us via chat.

If you need a replacement set of documents, contact us via chat.

Monthly payments
Toggle arrow

When you opt to pay for your insurance by monthly instalments we’ll take an initial deposit by card, then the rest of your payment will be made in 11 monthly instalments by direct debit.

You can see the dates of the instalments in the Credit Agreement sent to you by email or post, depending on how you said you’d like to hear from us.

If you want to change your direct debit date, or you've missed a payment, call our instalment team on 0344 871 0096. Lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Automatic renewal
Toggle arrow

Opt in to automatic renewal

Automatically renewing your policy gives you the reassurance of continuous cover. You can opt in to automatic renewal any time after purchasing your policy.

We'll send details of your renewal before your policy expires, and you'll have plenty of time to contact us if you want to make a change.

To choose automatic renewal, call us or chat to us.

Opt out of automatic renewal

You can also opt out of automatic renewal any time after purchase.

Either fill in our opt out of automatic renewal form, chat to us or call us.

If you have a Silver, Gold or Platinum policy, log in to your account and follow the link to 'Manage, view and renew' to opt out.

We'll still send you a renewal invitation when your policy is due to expire, but it won't renew automatically. Don't forget - it's a legal requirement to have car insurance unless your car has been registered as off the road.

Driving other cars under your policy
Toggle arrow

Our comprehensive policies allow you to drive other vehicles with third-party cover unless it's specifically excluded by your insurer. If this is excluded, we'll have told you about this when you got a quote.

Your current Statement of Fact will confirm whether you can drive another car which doesn't belong to you.

There are conditions that apply to this benefit, so check your policy booklet for more details.

Additional cars at your home address

When you have a car insured with us, you or other members of the household can get 15% off AA Car Insurance for additional cars registered at the same address.

The new additional car insurance policies must be bought directly via theaa.com/car-insurance/multi-car, or you can call us on 0330 053 0243.

A courtesy car is available with comprehensive cover. Following an accident, you'll get a courtesy car while yours is being repaired.

Where to find proof of your no claims discount

New customers

When you get a car insurance quote, we ask how many years' no claims discount (or no claims bonus) you already have. This information can be found on the cancellation notice or last renewal invitation from your previous insurer.

To validate your policy after purchase, we may ask for proof of the discount you've earned.

This will be a copy of the cancellation notice or last renewal invitation, or a letter on headed paper from your previous insurer.

The document should show:

  • Your name and address
  • The previous insurance policy number and expiry date
  • The vehicle registration number
  • Number of years of no claims discount

The document must be dated within the past 2 years and can't be used for another vehicle. You'll also need to tell us about any gap of more than 30 days between your previous and the new AA policy, including claims or convictions.

You can send the document to us by email or post, or even upload it to your account:

[email protected]

AA Insurance Services, Q3 Quorum Business Park, Benton Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear NE12 8EX

When we receive it we'll acknowledge the proof of your no claims discount. If we need more information, we'll make sure you have enough time to provide it. In the meantime, your AA car insurance policy will remain active.

Existing customers

If you already have car insurance with us, the number of years' no claims discount is on your Statement of Insurance/Fact. You'll have received a copy at purchase or renewal, either by post or in your account.

If you need a replacement Statement of Insurance/Fact, log in to your account to print a copy or contact us via chat.

If you cancelled your policy before the renewal date, the number of years will be on your cancellation letter. Otherwise we can't send proof of your no claims discount until your policy has ended.

Windscreen repairs
Toggle arrow

If you have comprehensive cover, then windscreen cover is included. We cover the windscreen, sunroof and the remaining windows. Your no claim discount isn't affected by a windscreen claim.

To get a windscreen replacement you’ll need to pay the excess for glass damage on your Statement of Insurance/Fact. There may be an excess to pay on a windscreen repair - check your policy documents for more information.

Book an appointment to make a glass claim and arrange a repair. You'll need your policy number, the policy start date and the name of the insurer. You can find these on your Statement of Insurance/Fact.

Driving in Europe

Can I drive abroad with my car insurance?

Our Gold and Platinum levels of car insurance allow you to drive anywhere in the EU, and in several other European countries, with the same level of cover you have in the UK for up to 90 days during your policy year.

Silver car insurance provides cover for up to 30 days during your policy year.

Remember, as a tourist or for other reasons you can stay within the EU for 90 days in any 180-day period. You may need a visa for a stay longer than 90 days.

Depending on your insurer, you could get cover for countries that we don't include as standard.

You can find out more on our advice page for driving abroad in Europe.

The AA Multi-Car Discount

How does the AA Multi-Car Discount work?

If you already have a car insured with us, then anyone at the same address can benefit from a 15% discount when they buy a new additional car insurance policy directly via theaa.com/car-insurance/multi-car. Or you can call us on 0330 053 0243.

The discount only applies to our Silver, Gold or Platinum car insurance and not to any optional additional cover.

The terms and conditions have all the details.

Can I insure more than one car and receive an AA Multi-Car Discount?

Yes, anyone at the home address can insure more than one car in their name.

So once you've insured one car with The AA, then you or another person in the household can revisit theaa.com/car-insurance/multi-car to benefit from the AA Multi-Car Discount on our Silver, Gold or Platinum car insurance for another car.

Up to 5 new additional car insurance policies at the same address can benefit from the 15% discount.

Any cars at the home address already insured with The AA won't qualify for the discount. Also, the offer isn't valid for commercial use.

Other drivers at the home address

Can anyone in my home get an AA Multi-Car Discount?

Yes, they can. We apply the 15% discount when anyone at the home address buys a new additional car insurance policy. It continues at renewal via their renewal invite, provided they still meet the AA Multi-Car Discount eligibility criteria.

Any cars at the home address already insured with The AA won't qualify for the discount as it applies only to new additional vehicles.

Remember, you need to buy the new additional car insurance policies directly via theaa.com/car-insurance/multi-car, or you can call us on 0330 053 0243.

Do new customers have to buy their policies directly from The AA?

Yes, they do. To get the AA Multi-Car Discount customers must buy additional car insurance policies directly via theaa.com/car-insurance/multi-car or call us on 0330 053 0243.

The discount isn't available on price comparison or cashback websites.

The existing or first AA Car Insurance policy can be bought direct from us or via a price comparison website.

Can only family members get the discount?

Anyone who lives in your home can get the discount – you don't have to be related. There just needs to be at least one car in your home already insured with The AA for them to qualify for the AA Multi-Car Discount.

To get the AA Multi-Car Discount they must buy additional car insurance policies directly via theaa.com/car-insurance/multi-car, or call us on 0330 053 0243.

Just remember, all of the cars must be registered at the same home address.

AA Multi-Car Discount policies

Can I drive all cars that qualify for an AA Multi-Car Discount?

The AA Multi-Car Discount is not a multi-car policy. Instead, the discount applies to each new additional car insurance policy at the home address.

So in order to drive other cars registered at the home address you must either be the policyholder or a named driver on a policy.

Will all the cars have the same renewal date?

No. Our AA Multi-Car Discount offer keeps things flexible for you. Every new additional policy is separate, with its own payment and renewal date.

Will each car insurance policy get its own no claims discount?

Yes, because each car is insured separately. And this means the policyholder can protect their own no claims discount.

When does the discount offer end?

The AA Multi-Car Discount rolls on every year, rewarding your ongoing loyalty.

The 15% discount is applied via the renewal invite for additional vehicles, provided you or anyone at the home address still meet the AA Multi-Car Discount eligibility criteria.

The AA reserves the right to change or withdraw the discount at any time without notice.
