VW Pro Match

The VW ID.3 Pro Match is a well-balanced electric hatchback, delivering everything you need in terms of technology, practicality and performance.

Specification highlights

Powered by a 58kWh battery, the ID.3 Pro Match offers a range of up to 268 miles (WLTP) on a single charge. Its 204 bhp electric motor provides responsive acceleration, making it tip-top for both city driving and longer journeys. The Pro Match trim includes 18-inch ‘East Derry’ alloys, with premium features such as adaptive cruise control, front & rear parking sensors and keyless entry for extra convenience.

Comfort

The ID.3 Pro Match is spacious and comfortable inside, with adjustable lumbar support for those longer drives. It’s a nice relaxing drive thanks to its quiet electric drivetrain and good sound insulation, with 10-colour ambient lighting and heated front seats adding a touch of luxury.

Visibility

The ID.3 Pro Match offers great visibility with its large windscreen, slim pillars and elevated seating position. The front and rear parking sensors, as well as the rear-view camera, make parking in tight spaces a breeze. As usual, LED headlights and rain sensors are there to help you out on darker, wetter days.

Instrumentation

The driver display is simple, but functional – ideal if you want to avoid distractions and concentrate on the road. There’s a 5.3-inch digital display which gives essential information such as speed, range and navigation. The touchscreen infotainment system, on the other hand, has a generous 12.9-inch display, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control and seamless smartphone connectivity. It also offers wireless phone charging, which is a nice bonus.

Space

The ID.3 has ample space for up to 4 passengers, and the decently sized 385-litre boot allows you to carry any essential items in the back. Additionally, you can fold the seats down if you need extra storage for long trips or moving chunky items.

On the road

The ID.3 Pro Match is smooth and composed, with a low centre of gravity. Its light steering handles well during urban driving, and it has a nice small turning circle for getting into (or out of) tight spots. It’s pretty nippy, getting up to 62mph in 7.6 seconds. And as with most EVs, there are a selection of drive modes to suit your choosing. In particular, the sport mode adds a bit of weight, which feels reassuring while driving on the motorway.

Charging

Charging the VW ID.3 Pro Match is straightforward, and pretty quick if you use a 120kW DC fast charger. It can get up to 80% charge in around 35 minutes. For home charging, a 7.4kW wallbox will give you a full charge in roughly 9 hours.

Verdict

The VW ID.3 Pro Match is the perfect car for new EV converts, with a good balance of range, comfort and a decent amount of tech. It’s great for city driving, but has enough space and range for longer trips too.
