Background and experience
Greg Carter is a certified Automotive Engineer and IMI Level 3 qualified EV Technician with nearly two decades of experience at The AA. He leads on technical accuracy, motoring policy insight and driver research, ensuring that The AA’s public advice, media commentary and digital content is robust, practical and trusted.
Before joining the Public Affairs team, Greg held several operational and technical roles across The AA, including Roadside Patrol, Technical Help Patrol, AA Training & Design Team, and Technical Liaison Engineer. Prior to joining The AA, he managed an automatic transmission specialist and later served as general manager at a prestige and classic car specialist garage. He was also a qualified MOT tester.
Role and responsibilities
Greg manages The AA-Yonder monthly driver survey, one of the UK’s largest ongoing motoring sentiment studies, gathering 12,000 to 15,000 responses each month. The survey provides vital insight into driver behaviour, concerns and emerging trends, directly informing AA policy positions and product development.Greg is The AA’s correspondent to the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and he represents the business at the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS). In addition, he is a lead contributor to the “Ask the Expert” column for The Sunday Times Magazine motoring section, answering readers’ technical and legal motoring questions.
Greg is passionate about making complex vehicle technology understandable and ensuring drivers receive clear, accurate and impartial advice. He is particularly motivated by using real-world driver insight to influence policy and improve outcomes for motorists.
