Introduction
The electric vehicle (EV) market is rapidly evolving, and the Ford Capri has made a significant transition from its classic roots to a modern electric powerhouse. This review delves into the performance, design, and overall experience of driving the electric Ford Capri.
It is fair to say that some original Capri aficionados are disappointed that the new Capri is a not even a shadow of its former self. The curve of the rear windscreen may just have been inspired by the original but little else. The same was said of the Mustang Mach E not bearing a resemblance to the original Mustang. Having said that I’ve spoken to Gen Zers who had no idea there was a Ford Capri in the past. Anyway approached the car with an open mind although I never had the pleasure of driving an original Capri.

Long Journeys
A common concern among potential EV buyers is the ability to undertake long journeys. While it's true that most EVs require charging stops for trips over 300 miles, it's also important to note that even petrol or diesel drivers should take breaks for safety reasons on such long trips.
EV Europa Rally
To demonstrate the capabilities of the electric Ford Capri, an AA team participated in the EV Europa Rally. We departed from Basingstoke in an all-electric Ford Capri, making our way to the start in Brussels via the AA shop at Folkestone and Le Shuttle. Before setting off, vehicle experts from Ford provided tips on optimising the vehicle' s performance.
The EV Europa Rally 2025 was an exhilarating event showcasing the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology and clean energy solutions. The rally spanned 1,270 kilometres over three days, taking participants through Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, and France.
The Route
The event began in Brussels at the iconic Atomium.
From Brussels, the teams crossed into the Netherlands, stopping at the Kristal Solar Park and navigating through various charging hubs and clean energy projects. Highlights included stops in Brecht, Antwerp, Arnhem, Rotterdam, The Hague, Zandvoort, and Maastricht. The final leg of the rally took participants through the picturesque Ardennes Regional Nature Park, touching France before concluding back in Brussels.
All cars used the Octopus Electroverse card and app for charging, which provided an excellent and seamless experience.
Performance
One of the standout aspects of the rally was the performance of the Capri. There were no breakdowns or software issues, and the vehicle performed admirably throughout the event. The Ford Capri electric vehicle won a podium place in the official efficiency rankings despite competing with smaller cars.
Costs and Specifications

The drive
I did most of the driving on the EV rally and the biggest compliment to the Capri was that I never felt tired. It is an easy, comfortable, and yet, engaging drive. The steering and brakes are precise but not over-sensitive.
The seats were comfortable and to prevent any tiredness I tried the massaging seat but didn’t tell my passengers as they didn’t have that function. It worked well.
The Capri was at home on the autoroutes and ate up the miles. Some of the beautiful country roads in Luxembourg were slightly more challenging particularly on some of the corners where the steering wasn’t quite as firm. As we were on an EV Rally I didn’t get to try the sport mode which might have made the car more receptive on those roads.
Sat nav
On many cars, people say don’t use the satnav, use Apple Play or Waze. We all know that those apps work but in reviewing a car I also like to use the original satnav – otherwise what is the point of having one? Well this sat nav worked well and was easy to switch from miles to kilometres and even to navigate through five countries in a day.
Lessons Learnt
The EV Europa Rally 2025 was a resounding success, offering participants a unique opportunity to experience electric mobility across different countries, network with like-minded professionals, and bring back valuable insights to push the EV case forward in the UK. Compared to the first Greenfleet EV Rally of Scotland following COP26 in 2021, the cars now have a better range, and the charging infrastructure is more extensive and reliable, making planned charging less of a concern.
For those who doubt the long-distance capabilities of EVs, the electric Ford Capri proved its worth by completing the journey from Brussels to Basingstoke with four occupants and suitcases without needing to charge.
Conclusion
The electric Ford Capri is a testament to the advancements in EV technology, offering impressive performance, reliability, and efficiency. The Capri is in that cross-over or smaller SUV category which seems to be attracting many electric models. Whether you're considering an EV for long journeys or daily commutes, the Ford Capri is a strong contender in the market even if it bears little resemblance to its worthy predecessor.
