Breakdown cover as a gift

We're no longer selling gift membership. You can buy breakdown cover for yourself online, or to buy breakdown cover for somebody else, call 0800 085 2721. Open: Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm.

If you want to activate an existing gift membership, call 0800 032 0262 and select option 2. Make sure to activate this within 6 months of the purchase date or it'll expire.

Can I use gift membership to renew my cover?
Breakdown cover gift membership is only for new Members – existing Members can’t use it to renew their cover.
Can I exchange my gift membership for anything else?
Breakdown cover gift membership can’t be exchanged for any other AA products or services.

I’ve been given gift membership. What do I need to do?
Welcome to the AA! It’s great to have you with us. The first thing you'll need to do is activate your 12-month membership by calling us on 0800 032 02 62. You must do this within six months of the purchase date or your gift will expire.
I’ve bought gift membership – can I cancel it?

To cancel gift membership within 28 days of purchase and before it has been activated, call 0800 032 0262

We’ll make sure a full refund is given to the card on which the original purchase was made. 

After the 28-day period or after activation by the gift recipient, whichever is the sooner, the buyer will have no further right to cancel.

If the gift membership is activated and then cancelled within 14 days from receipt of the membership documentation (the 'cooling-off period'), a full refund will be issued to the card on which the original purchase was made, less an administration fee. 

After this cooling-off period has expired and subject to any other statutory rights, there will be no entitlement to any refund for unexpired portions of membership.

How soon after activation can I make a callout?

At Home, National Recovery and Onward Travel features (if applicable) are not available until 24 hours after activation of the gift membership. 

Gift membership cannot be activated in a breakdown situation where immediate service is required. No service will be provided to holders of inactivated gift membership.

AA Breakdown Cover is arranged by Automobile Association Insurance Services Limited. Registered office: Fanum House, Basing View, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 4EA. Registered in England and Wales number 2414212.
