Megan Tench, from Tamworth, is celebrating a major career milestone after being crowned AA Recovery Patrol of the Year – The AA’s highest accolade for its recovery patrols across the UK – at the annual AA Awards.
In her new role, 36-year-old Megan will spend the next 12 months as the public face of the company, representing the UK’s biggest motoring organisation within the motor industry and with the media.
The judging process began in September with nominations from across the UK, before four finalists were put through intensive technical and driving tests, panel interviews and mock radio interviews at The AA’s Oldbury Operations Centre in November.

“...to win is beyond anything I imagined when I first enrolled on the The AA’s Apprenticeship Programme in 2022.”
Megan joined The AA Apprenticeship Programme in January 2022 after leaving a successful career as a Service Delivery Manager for a medical equipment company. Since then, she has excelled by passing her HGV test, taking on additional responsibilities, mentoring new colleagues, and consistently delivering exceptional service to members of the organisation.
Her commitment to going above and beyond was evident during one of her most memorable recoveries: a 4WD SUV parked in a tight driveway with all wheels locked. Megan’s determination and technical expertise ensured the vehicle was safely recovered without damage, earning praise from both the member and her peers.
Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her family and cheering on Coventry City. She also dreams of one day owning a BMW M3 and taking a family holiday in their beloved Florida. With plans for an exciting year ahead and backed by her husband and two children, Megan’s award marks the start of a new chapter.
Megan said: “Being shortlisted for Recovery Patrol of the Year was an incredible honour, and to win is beyond anything I imagined when I first enrolled on the The AA’s Apprenticeship Programme in 2022.
“I’m proud to represent such a trusted brand and love helping our members when they need us most. Every day brings new challenges, and I thrive on finding solutions that make a real difference. This award means so much to me and my family, and I’m excited for what the next year will bring.”
Dean Keeling, Managing Director of Roadside Services at The AA, says: “These awards celebrate the exceptional efforts of our people who go above and beyond to help others, and Megan is a fantastic example of this.
“Recovery Patrols are often there when members feel stressed and vulnerable, so showing understanding and compassion is just as important as technical skill. Megan’s professionalism, care, and technical skill set her apart and reflect the values that make AA patrols unique.
“Her award is a true testament to her dedication and outstanding service. Congratulations to Megan and all our finalists and winners.”
The AA Awards 2025 were held on Thursday 11 December at Vox, Birmingham, with the Patrol of the Year taking the reins on 1st February 2026.
