The low-ceilinged, heavily beamed restaurant has plenty of atmosphere with its whitewashed walls hung with oils and candles flickering on bare wooden tables. The kitchen is ahead of the game when it partners pan-fried and sautéed scallops with confit chorizo cassoulet and aïoli and turns out a main course of roast rump of local lamb with honey-roast salsify, herby and garlicky mash and delightful, sticky onion jus. Another well-considered main course might be pan-fried sea bass fillet with seafood bisque and crushed potatoes. Conclude with bara-brith-and-butter pudding with Penderyn whisky-infused custard, or baked Welsh cake cheesecake with strawberry preserve.
