Hewn out of a row of Georgian cottages, the Griffins' comfortably furnished restaurant has a smart but homely feel. To start there are appealing offerings as mild goats' cheese and cauliflower tart on rocket and pine nut salad, followed by seared sirloin with grain mustard mash, flat mushrooms and kale in rumbustious ale gravy, or grilled halibut with more mash in a sauce of white wine, capers and crayfish. The veggie main course could be roasted squash cannelloni with mascarpone and sage in amontillado cream. A stonkingly rich, soft-textured chocolate mousse cake served warm with maple and walnut ice cream and chocolate sauce is a grand finale.
