Standing on the shore of Loch Sunart in 22 acres of sumptuous grounds, Kilcamb offers unruffled tranquillity and seclusion, the journey alone providing a delightful taste of the wild Ardnamurchan Peninsula. With just 12 rooms, the Georgian house is an intimate hideaway that delivers old-school country-house comforts all the way to the elegant dining room, where linen is crisp, cutlery and glassware sparkle, and the loch views paint an unforgettable backdrop to modern cooking with its distinct Scottish accent. Gary Phillips provisions the larder from local crofts, estates and fishing boats, the latter’s catch showcased on a daily-changing speciality seafood menu. Hand-dived scallops open the show in a vibrant medley with black pudding, apple bonbon, salt-baked beetroot, pickled cauliflower and caramelized apple purée, then roast loin of superb local lamb comes crusted with garlic and pistachio, alongside shepherd’s pie of slow-cooked leg meat, creamed cabbage and bacon, carrot and apricot purée, and caper and mint butter. The finale is a riff on lemon comprising lemon and ginger cheesecake, white chocolate and lemon parfait, mini lemon meringues and lemon jelly.
