With no fewer than 11 fireplaces, a ‘warm’ welcome is assured at this picturesque Usk Valley inn. Oliver Cromwell based himself here during local Civil War campaigns; so add a priest hole, Tudor plasterwork and a mention in T S Eliot’s poem Usk and this is a destination to savour. Reliable ales from the likes of the Wye Valley Brewery are offered, as well as farmhouse ciders from Gwynt y Ddraig. Representative choices on the menu could include fishcake with creamed leeks; braised pork belly with mustard mash and honey-glazed vegetables; or vegetarian lasagne. Extensive seating is available outside.
