For generations Hope Hall, as this early 16th-century building was once called, was the Balguy family seat. In 1730 it became an inn, The Cross Daggers, then in 1876 it was renamed The Hall Hotel. In the 18th century a cattle market was held here; today, on bank holidays, the Hope Valley Beer and Cider Festival draws the crowds. Main menus promise dishes such as chicken supreme with chestnut purée, creamed cabbage and roast garlic pomme purée; king prawn and crab claw tagliatelle; and steak and ale pie with garden peas and beef dripping chips. For lunch there’s also soup and sandwiches, hot ciabattas and light bites.
