Popular motorcycle event brings thousands of riders together to raise money for local charities
Thousands of motorcyclists will take to the roads of South Wales this Sunday (11 October) for the annual Hoggin' the Bridge charity motorcycle ride, with The AA joining the celebrations by providing breakdown support and a selection of motorcycles from its historic heritage fleet.
Organised by Caldicot Motorcycle Club, the popular event brings together motorcycle enthusiasts from across Wales and the South West, combining a shared passion for two wheels with fundraising for local charities and good causes.
The AA will be supporting the event with dedicated breakdown patrols on hand to assist participating riders experiencing mechanical difficulties, helping keep the event moving and providing reassurance to those taking part.
A celebration of motorcycling heritage
Alongside its modern breakdown patrols, The AA will be bringing a small part of historic motorcycles from its heritage fleet, accompanied by AA Heritage team riders.
Though some of the more recent motorcycles used by The AA, the heritage bikes in use at Sunday’s event will offer a fascinating glimpse into the organisation's long association with motorcycling, dating back to 1905 when the first AA patrols took to the roads on bicycles.
By 1919, motorcycles and sidecars had become a familiar sight on Britain's roads, with AA patrols riding machines manufactured by companies including Triumph, BSA and Chater Lea.
More than a century later, The AA continues to support motorcyclists through its nationwide breakdown and recovery service in addition to the The AA Charitable Trust’s globally recognised Think Bikes road safety campaign – Free Think Bikes mirror stickers available from The AA’s stall at the event.
The historic motorcycles attending Hoggin' the Bridge will provide an opportunity for visitors and motorcycle enthusiasts to discover how roadside assistance has evolved over the decades.

Supporting riders and the local community
Emma Robbins, AA Regional Patrol Manager, said: "Hoggin' the Bridge is a fantastic event that brings together thousands of people who share a passion for motorcycling, while raising money for some incredibly worthwhile causes.
"We're delighted to be supporting the organisers and riders again this year, with our breakdown patrols on hand to help anyone who experiences mechanical problems along the way.
"It's also a wonderful opportunity for our Heritage team to showcase some of the motorcycles that helped shape The AA's history. Motorcycles have played an important part in our story for well over a century, so it's particularly fitting that we're able to bring some of that history to an event celebrating everything that's great about biking.
"We're looking forward to meeting riders, supporting the event and, hopefully, helping everyone enjoy a memorable and breakdown-free day."
Riding for a good cause
Hoggin' the Bridge has become a popular fixture in the motorcycling calendar, attracting thousands of riders and spectators while generating valuable funds for charitable organisations.
This year's ride begins at Gympanzees, near Bristol, before travelling through local communities including Crick, Llanmartin and Magor, eventually arriving at Caldicot School.
The event offers an opportunity for motorcycle enthusiasts, families and local residents to come together, enjoy the spectacle of thousands of motorcycles and support the fundraising efforts of Caldicot Motorcycle Club.
With more than £100,000 raised for charitable causes through participating riders over the event's history, Hoggin' the Bridge demonstrates how a shared enthusiasm for motorcycling can make a positive difference to local communities.
