The heathland golf course adjacent to the sea was opened in 1922 and there are views over the third tee from the traditional and roomy restaurant (there's also a wood-panelled bar and a terrace with a watery vista). The daily-changing menu keeps things relatively simple, so you might start with tender ham hock with home-made remoulade and granary toast, or lemon and dill fishcake with chunky tartare sauce. Move on to pan-fried rib-eye with hand-cut chips and classic trimmings, or Thorpeness fish pie with cheesy mash and greens. Among desserts, chocolate profiteroles come filled with white chocolate cream and tangy lemon tart is served with lemon sorbet and raspberry coulis.
