Dating back to the 15th century, this characterful, asymmetrical timbered building is full of beams and period charm. The main restaurant is the Gallery, named for the medieval minstrels' balcony that can still be seen. The setting might be historic but the food is distinctly modern, and the menu might begin with salt-baked beetroot, caramelised walnuts, port-soaked blue cheese and berries, while mains could take in a trio of Suffolk pork with winter vegetables, or seared halibut with white fish cannelloni, braised turnips, shrimps and razor clams. Vanilla parfait with elderflower jelly and textures of raspberry shows the style at dessert.
