Impressive upmarket cooking near the Royal Crescent

At a glance

Private dining
Wines by the glass
Wheelchair access

In a prime location between The Circus and Royal Crescent stands this upmarket all-day eatery where the monthly-changing menu is based on fine West Country produce. Start with a Med-inspired octopus dish with roasted peppers, and a caraway and coriander sauce, or a zesty undyed smoked haddock carpaccio. Among main courses, loin of venison is cooked as requested and arrives with parsnip purée and a red wine sauce enriched with Venezuelan chocolate, and calves' liver is served pink with a piquant sherry and grain mustard gravy. There's always a fish option, and among puddings might be warm rice pudding with honey-coated figs and cardamom, or a sorbet flavoured with Campari.
