Classy country inn with local ingredients and a Mediterranean twist

AA Inspector

Open all year
Private dining
Wines by the glass

A thoroughly contemporary kind of inn these days, the 18th-century Crossways looks much the same as it always has from the outside, but a 21st-century makeover has opened-up the place, bringing soothing neutrally-toned modernity. It's the kind of place where you can eat what you want where you want, and there's a children's menu, too. The chef makes a big play for local and regional ingredients, with Somerset's finest on show, but there's a Mediterranean spin to proceedings. Confit duck and orange terrine with grape chutney and skin crumb gets the ball rolling, before herb-crusted rack of lamb or loin of cod infused with dill.
