This old red-brick inn has been servicing the needs of the community since the 17th century. Today's incumbents took over in 2011 and brought the place back to life. There's a light-filled dining room extension (the Winter Garden), panelled bar, cosy bedrooms and a smart courtyard garden. The menu offers modern British dishes such as a pretty tian of oak-smoked salmon, crayfish and avocado, followed by a hearty but refined main course combining venison haunch with black pudding, plus rosemary and thyme dauphinoise, blueberry coulis and a cauliflower and almond purée. For dessert, apple crumble with crème anglaise competes with a pear poached in hot chocolate.
