In this 16th-century coaching inn you'll find stone-flagged floors, roaring log fires, fashionably mismatched furniture and a kitchen that churns out generous, satisfying dishes with unmistakably French accents. A springtime meal begins with home-made ravioli stuffed with local rabbit and tarragon, supported by a glossy wild mushroom sauce and pecorino cheese, ahead of rump of new-season lamb with crisp and buttery pommes Anna and a punchy pesto of capers and wild garlic. If you hanker for fish, how about hake steamed with king prawns over a stock of tomato, chorizo and mussels? For pudding, there's a textbook rendition of classic tarte Tatin with home-made vanilla ice cream.
