The Keeper's House was installed in the 19th century as a grace-and-favour apartment for the steward of the Royal Academy collections. A strikingly attractive restaurant has been fashioned here, the recessed rooms imitating those of the galleries upstairs. As well as inspiring cocktails and English wines, there's a menu of spruce modern British and European cooking. Start with a seabass carpaccio with radish and fennel and then consider a perfectly cooked beef cheek carbonade with mash and red cabbage, and, to finish, a simple, but excellent flourless gooey chocolate cake. It's members only until 4pm, and then all are welcome.
