Country pub charm by the Common

On the edge of Wimbledon Common, the 18th-century Fox & Grapes has morphed into a contemporary food-oriented pub with an airy open-plan interior of oak floors, wood panelling, and chunky bare wooden tables and mismatched chairs wrapped around a central island bar. An appealing menu of flavour-driven ideas straddles the classic and modern worlds, opening with ham hock and parsley terrine with beetroot and horseradish tapenade and granary toast. Follow that with roast cod fillet with smoked bacon, spinach, samphire, and cider and fish cream, or a fashionable posh burger, and finish with the comfort of squidgy dark chocolate and pistachio brownie with honeycomb ice cream.
