This is a fabulous location for this smart Chinese restaurant, away up on the tenth floor of the Royal Garden Hotel, where you can enjoy views across the leafiest parts of Kensington, with all London’s most iconic buildings spanning the horizon. The long dining room is decorated in red, black and cream, with displays of ceramics and well-spaced tables, all making the most of that view. There's also a private dining room, with mirrored walls and black and white photographs of China. On the menu you'll find a wide choice of both traditional and more contemporary Chinese dishes - they're well regarded for their duck, but you'll need to order this in advance. Dim sum is excellent, and there are some interesting vegetarian options. A great dish of crispy fried salt-and-pepper squid makes a simple but harmonious beginning, while Sichuan double cooked pork belly with Chinese leek is served on a clay platter, with refined saucing and wonderful flavours, the leeks adding the perfect textural contrast. Desserts are thoughtfully constructed - min jiag pancake with Cornish ice cream, for instance, is an outstanding finish.
