Smack on the corner of lovely Battersea Square, Gordon Ramsay’s neighbourhood restaurant and bar is just the outfit everyone would love on their doorstep. There’s the buzz of unpretentious class throughout; from smiley, friendly, professional service to its smart, modern good looks. Enjoy cocktails at the copper-topped bar, or kick back in the lounge on brown leather sofas and chairs. The dining area is a light, open-up space that breaks down into two or three smaller areas, punctuated by artworks, polished-wood tables and on-trend leather seating. The kitchen’s creative modern British brasserie-style repertoire displays the same unmistakeable gloss; think simplicity, precision, flavour and flair, plus excellent ‘buying’ of native ingredients. Witness new season asparagus (Wye Valley) teamed with Cumbrian ham, a slow-cooked egg and shavings of Lords of the Hundreds cheese (East Sussex) to open, and to follow, pink-perfect Lancashire duck breast with carrot, chicory and orange, while from the grill, there’s Cumbrian beef steaks or bone-in Herdwick lamb. Comfort desserts, like jammy doughnuts and custard lead the way to finish. Alfresco opportunities prove a real bonus.
