The Rosette award for this establishment has been suspended due to a change of chef. Reassessment will take place in due course under the new chef. Celebrated Pied-à-Terre's hipper little sister, L'Autre is trendily located in ever-chic Marylebone 'village' just off the High Street. This other Pied is no slouch either, an equally classy, up-scale contemporary offshoot, but livelier and with an uptempo buzz and switched-on professional service that collectively dismiss any feeling of starchiness. Illuminated screens with floral motifs add eye-catching character and warmth alongside modern artwork, while rosewood tables and pale green leather chairs and red banquettes add stylish comfort. The cooking is as modern and well dressed as the surroundings; classic French-underpinned contemporary cooking of creativity, enthusiasm, skill and generosity. Busy plates deliver bags of interest alongside top-notch ingredients; take beautifully timed, flaky fresh Cornish charred cod, paired with crevettes, crushed Jersey Royals, buttermilk and lovage, while Richard Vaughan's melt-in-the-mouth suckling pig comes served with cannelloni, fresh peas, radicchio, anchovy and grain mustard. The repertoire is a fixed-price affair so there are no surprises, and, while the carte raises the bar, it throws in the odd supplement for luxury. Cheffy desserts, like variations of chocolate and mint 'After Eight' or perhaps textures of raspberries with champagne and buttermilk bavarois tempt at the finish. Wines are an equally superior, well-selected bunch.
