The Mayfair branch of the now global Hakkasan chain is discretely tucked away just off Berkeley Square and certainly exemplifies the brands super-cool DNA, with its contemporary mix of seductive design and dazzling east-meets-west Cantonese cuisine. A long entrance corridor leads to the ground-floor dining room with its smart low-slung leather seating and sexy bar, while downstairs is a more intimate, nightclubby space enclosed by intricately carved wood screens. Wherever you sit, a high-gloss high-octane approach abounds; from the slick, informed service to the kitchen’s vibrant reimaginings of traditional Cantonese dishes, all immaculately dressed to thrill and delivered with polished technique and tip-top ingredients. Divine dim sum encompasses the likes of caviar-dotted abalone and chicken shu mai to royal king crab jade dumplings. House speciality mains take in roasted silver cod with champagne and honey to spicy prawn with lily bulb and almond, or melt-in-the-mouth stir-fry black pepper rib-eye beef with merlot. Desserts prolong the thrill factor; think yuzu tart with burnt meringue, confit citrus and yuzu ice cream. (Fixed-price lunch is considered a steal at this pitch.)
