In a super spot overlooking the heath from its pavement tables or through floor-to-ceiling windows, Chapters covers all the bases from breakfast to modern brasserie classics at lunch and dinner. Top-quality ingredients provide the foundations for well-presented, clean-flavoured dishes, starting with deep-fried cod brandade with poached egg, gribiche sauce and pea shoots, then corn-fed chicken with pearl barley risotto, pancetta and stem broccoli. The Josper grill might supply Kentish double Barnsley lamb chop or a rib-eye steak, and to finish, there's Valrhona chocolate pudding. Add in stonking value fixed-price options, well-chosen wines (with plenty by glass or pichet) and you've got a dynamic neighbourhood winner.
