Almost in the shadow of Canary Wharf's skyscrapers and with the Thames a few paces away, Chef Collin Brown's Caribbean restaurant is a smart, modern affair yet with a genuine laid-back neighbourhood vibe. A glass-fronted semi-circular space occupying a corner site below an apartment complex, the decor comes with a touch of Caribbean flamboyance. Luxuriant wall-coverings in gold and black meet glitzy chandeliers and gilded mirrors, high-back, plum-coloured dining chairs, parquet flooring and a funky Caribbean soundtrack. The man himself was born in Jamaica and brings his passion for the Caribbean to the table in uncomplicated dishes that are bold and expressive. Witness classic mains like a highly seasoned boneless goat curry, or succulent, high-octane jerk chicken breast, while a light, boozy signature rum, cognac and almond sponge-cake dessert or mango cheesecake finish things off in tropical style. Cocktails take you straight back to holidays in the sun.
