High up on the North Downs, with far-reaching views, stands this 15th-century, timber-framed, Wealden hall house. Dining takes place in both a cosy pubby area, where an impressive list of past landlords is displayed, and a second space, more restaurant-like, yet still informal. Dishes are simply described and simply presented, as for example, smoked salmon pâté, brown crab mayo and guacamole; slow-cooked marinated pork belly, heritage carrots, beetroot and baked apple purée; and monkfish tails, baby vegetables, Anya potatoes and shellfish bisque. Cambridge burnt cream - Trinity College's own version of crème brûlée - with lemon curd and meringues rounds things off well.
