Not far from the cathedral, the Canterbury ABode is a half-timbered building that has been decoratively refashioned for the boutique crowd. A starter of wild mushroom risotto arrives with a parmesan crisp sticking out of it amid a ruffle of white wine foam. Dishes are also capable of striking the more robust note. Quail, cooked in a water bath and finished with a blow torch, is served with a hazelnut vinaigrette and truffled egg yolk, while a main course of pan-roasted monkfish is paired especially well with black quinoa and picked cockles. Options for dessert include a vanilla and goats' cheese cheesecake.
