Specialising in hearty, unpretentious food that doesn't try to punch above its weight, Monty's Inn goes for a clubby look involving wood-panelled walls, wooden floors and unclothed tables – a posh country pub setting that opens with a home-made local pork Scotch egg with spiced apple sauce and dressed rocket. The coast isn't too far off, so fish is well represented by pan-roasted sea bass with lemon fondant potatoes, broccoli, shallot purée, crispy mussels and red wine jus, while meaty mains could offer ginger beer-glazed roast duck breast with a leg meat spring roll, bok choy and duck fat potatoes. For pudding, there's dark chocolate mousse with cherry sorbet.
