This Cotswold-stone building dates back to 1870, but it was made world-famous in the 1980s with the formation of the Pudding Club. The Victorian hotel has oodles of period character, although the restaurant bucks the trend with a more contemporary look. The food is big-hearted British stuff, although the kitchen isn't afraid to look further afield for inspiration. Seared tuna, mango and chilli salsa is a typical starter, followed by roasted duck breast, bok choy and orange jus. Dessert has to be a steamed pud with custard or dark chocolate and hazelnut tart with vanilla ice cream.
