A bow-windowed Georgian townhouse in Cotswold stone, The Kings stands proud on the town-centre square. British modernism is the kitchen's guidepost, so there might be wood pigeon breast with shallot cream, poached grapes and celery, or a creative salad of goats' curd with roast apple purée, walnuts and honey dressing. Main-course stone bass is timed spot-on and served with coco beans, brown shrimps, broccoli purée and lemon oil, while local meat fans might head for rump and crispy shoulder of Lighthorne lamb alongside celeriac, wild garlic, sheep's curd and hazelnut. In conclusion, bitter dark chocolate mousse and cocoa nib tuile are paired with the contrasting sharpness of blood orange sorbet.
