Glorious views and fine seasonal food

AA Inspector

At a glance

Open all year

On a glorious summer's day, the terraced gardens leading to the water's edge are an unforgettable place to eat, but the whitewashed Cary Arms does have more than its fair share of good things: a beamed bar with stone walls, dreamy views across the bay, luxury sea-facing bedrooms and delicious food from the daily-changing menu. The watchwords in the kitchen are freshness and seasonality, underpinned by a respect for local ingredients. Ham hock terrine comes with piccalilli and toasted rye bread, ahead of roasted Brixham lemon sole with Parmentier potatoes, asparagus, and lemon caper butter. At the end, there’s vanilla crème brûlée with biscotti.
