The River Teign flows past this pretty white-painted hotel, where a Devon cream tea is just the ticket. The garden is a lush pastoral backdrop. There is an air of genteel formality in the restaurant with its linen-clad tables, while the kitchen’s output is modern, seasonal, and well-presented. Brixham scallops star in an opening salvo with seared chorizo and chickpeas, plus some zesty green apple and a citrusy butter sauce, or go for foie gras parfait with Madeira jelly. Among main courses, local chicken breast arrives with crispy skin and a wee chicken and leek pie, and fish and chips is a classy version. Crème brûlée comes with a nicely tart blackberry sorbet.
