Behind the flower-planted frontage of this pub it's all quite trendy and modern while retaining a traditional feel, so all comers are happy, as they are with the appealingly interesting cooking. Ideas are plucked from a variety of sources, so fish goujons with taramasalata is as likely to feature among starters as crispy pork with a quail's egg and parsnip purée. Well-considered main courses are a forte, too: herb-roasted hake, flaky and moist, for instance, is served with tempura samphire, green bean and quinoa salad and crushed potatoes, and loin of lamb with shepherd's pie, greens and carrot purée. Don't pass on puddings, among them apple, raisin and cinnamon crumble.
