The word 'restraint' was not in the designers' brief when they converted this 15th-century coaching inn into a flamboyant, English-themed restaurant (there's also a Thai option). It's a fun, high-energy place, with a menu that covers classics, chargrilled meats and some lively modern global ideas. The set-up has its own farm shop that supplies the black pudding and crispy Old Spot bacon to go with seared Lyme Bay scallops. Main course sees pan-fried sea bass fillet matched with Mediterranean vegetables, a soft-boiled quail's egg and black olive potatoes. Dessert gilds the lily somewhat, partnering a well-executed Madagascan vanilla crème brûlée with raspberry sorbet, jelly and shortbread.
