Rebuilt in the 1880s, the Swan today offers weary travellers a friendly and relaxed welcome. Located among the Surrey Hills, The Swan is typical of the coaching inns that once served customers travelling to or from the south coast. In the bar, temptations include local ales such as Upham Brewery's Punter, and from an international list, there are 18 wines served by the glass. The daily-changing menu has broad appeal; a typical meal might kick off with chicken and foie gras terrine, apricot chutney and pickled mustard seeds. That might be followed by a main course of crayfish linguini, chilli, garlic and spring onions. For dessert perhaps choose banana bread and butter pudding with poppy seed ice cream, or the carefully sourced cheeseboard.
