Tucked away down Slug’s Lane on the edge of the village, this smart pub overlooks the Somerleyton Estate. Tara Smyth took over the reins in July 2015 and it is renowned locally for its imaginative seasonal menus, which champion game and estate-reared meats. A thriving dining-pub, the relaxed bar and eating areas fill early with those in the know. A typical meal might begin with ham hock and split pea broth and continue with roast rump and cheek of beef, Jerusalem artichoke risotto and hispi cabbage. Savour the views over a pint of Woodforde’s Wherry in the garden in the summer months.
