The Star has a great deal going for it, not least with the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal running past its back door. Beer festivals in mid-June and mid-October are huge draws, as are the ever-changing real ales, with over 500 guest brews a year. In addition to pub classics, the menu may tempt with braised Welsh lamb shank in red wine; a 10oz rib-eye steak; pan-fried trout in garlic and chilli butter; Paddy Sweeney (of Brecon) faggots; or vegetarian lasagne.
