A pretty 15th-century coaching inn, The Crown began life in medieval times, serving ale to the thriving monastic community, then providing refuge to Catholic priests escaping Henry VIII’s tyrannical rule. The bar is supplied by mostly local breweries, typically Brakspear. Lunch and dinner are served from Wednesdays through to Sunday lunchtime and may be enjoyed inside, where there are three log fires, or in the picturesque garden overlooking the valley.
