The Ostrich has stood on Castle Acre's green for over four centuries and looks all the better for its longevity; even the walls and ceilings that defied the ancient spirit level and plumb line are a delight. The decor is rich and warm, the bar bright. From a winter menu come duck and sweet potato hash cake with soft poached egg; braised ham hock, grain mustard mash, pineapple purée, charred corn, crispy hen's egg and cider sauce; and Ostrich Ale-battered haddock, chunky chips, mushy peas with tartare sauce. A June beer festival is held in the beautiful garden, which even finds room for a sandpit and a beach hut.
