The Dabbling Duck on Great Massingham’s glorious green thrives as a community local and a stylish inn. Head for the high-backed settles by the raised log fire to peruse the papers with pork scratchings and apple ketchup and a pint of Aspall cider, Woodforde's Wherry or Adnams Ghost Ship. Then move to a scrubbed table in one of the comfortably rustic dining areas, or the garden, and choose beetroot gravad lax, pickled beetroot, crème fraîche and rye cracker; or salt hake Scotch egg, sardine ketchup and n’duja mayonnaise to start, followed by cod, 'Norwich' carrot, sea buckthorn, nasturtium and cobnuts; or Dingley Dell pork belly, piccalilli purée, carrots, cauliflower, apple and cucumber. There are shelves groaning with books and board games, rugs on tiled floors and the atmosphere is informal and relaxed. Everything adds up to create a cracking village pub.
