The village’s ancient stocks and duck pond are popular with film-makers who frequently use Aldbury as a location, allowing the pub’s customers the chance to witness every clap of the clapperboard. In the oak-beamed restaurant, the comprehensive menu includes salads and platters, as well as pan-fried sea bass on braised fennel, kale, yellow peppers and rösti; venison and root vegetables casseroled in red wine; king prawn spaghetti; or rump of lamb on Savoy cabbage and bacon with dauphinoise potatoes. Among the desserts are bread and butter pudding with custard; and dark chocolate and orange mousse with Chantilly cream. The bar snacks are a local legend, especially when accompanied by Badger Dorset Best or Tanglefoot ale.
