Just a few miles from the Welsh border, The Temple Bar Inn is a popular pit-stop for walkers and cyclists exploring the Black Mountains and Herefordshire Trail. Painstakingly restored by the Jinman family, this handsome building was first licensed in the 1850s but before that it had been a court house, corn exchange, school room and stable. It is now very much the hub of the community, with locals popping in for pints of Wye Valley ales or foodies enjoying well-executed classics such as pan-fried chicken breast stuffed with chorizo; aubergine parmigiana with fig and toasted pine nut salad; or pan-fried sea trout with crushed new potatoes and lemon beurre blanc.
