On the banks of the River Itchen, in the pretty village of Ovington, this rose-covered pub is tucked down a track that's part of the historic Pilgrim's Way running from Winchester to Canterbury. Small rooms off the bar are characterised by subdued lighting, dark-painted walls, sturdy tables and chairs, high-backed settles, and trout-fishing and other rustic artefacts. Add the comforting log fire and one of Wadworth's real ales and the result is, well, pub heaven.
