Tucked away in a secluded hamlet in the hills fringing the Peak District, this comfortable community local first opened its doors in 1805. It retains much of the character of days gone by and is a popular stop with ramblers exploring the countless paths threading the ridges, moors and wooded cloughs hereabouts. Roaring winter fires take away the chill, or you could settle down outside with a glass of Stockport-brewed Robinsons beer and anticipate freshly cooked mains such as rabbit and ham pie with smoked garlic mash; or cod loin, cauliflower, burnt hispi and fondant potato and Terry's chocolate orange brownie.
