A traditional 17th-century Cotswold-stone inn that was once a drovers’ resting place, this lovely pub boasts stunning views of the valley from the terraced gardens. The main bar is divided into four cosy areas with log fires and traditional built-in settles. Excellent local ales and ciders are backed by a good selection of wines, while the extensive menus demonstrate commitment to local produce, particularly prize-winning meat from the region. Perhaps try Gloucester Old Spots sausages with mash and onion gravy; wild boar and apple burger; or red snapper fillet with lemon parsley butter. The more adventurous should aim for spiced kangaroo steak with beetroot and walnut puree. A wide range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are also available.
