Pint of beer on a bar

The Square and Compass

At a glance

Beer festival
Open all year

Award-winning West Country beers and ciders come straight from the barrel here and food is limited to just pasties and pies. Little has changed at this stone-built pub for the past century, during which time it has been run by the same family. It is tucked-away and boasts a simple interior with no bar, just a serving hatch and an abundance of flagstone floors, oak panels and a museum of local artefacts and fossils from the nearby Jurassic Coast. On the first Saturday in October there’s a beer and pumpkin festival, and in early November there's a cider festival.
