16th-century country pub deep in the Vale of Clwyd

At a glance

Bar menu
Beer festival
Open all year

Surrounded by the sublime scenery of the Clwydian hills, this pretty, whitewashed pub really is the 'charming and friendly retreat from the world' owners Lucy and Jason Stock set out to create. Modern British food is locally sourced; extra-mature Welsh steak, roast vine tomatoes, grilled flat mushrooms and hand cut chips; and roasted shoulder of Gellifor pork with sautéed Jersey Royals and creamed Savoy cabbage. Real ales, such as Porthmadog's Purple Moose, come from local microbreweries.
