St Merryn, just outside Padstow, is home to this ancient pub, part of the Stein portfolio. Situated across the road from the parish church and overlooking a peaceful valley, it remains very much the village boozer. It oozes character, with slate floors, beams and roaring log fires, and they’ve kept the food offering equally traditional. Start with grilled Mount’s Bay sardines: or half pint of prawns, continues with traditional battered fish and chips: or curries from Rick's travels; and ends in sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream. Wash it down with a glass of Chalky’s Bite. Check with the pub for details of special seasonal offers throughout the year.
